Market-leading e-billing and matter management solution Thomson Reuters Legal Tracker™ (formerly Serengeti Tracker™) hosted the 6th annual Golden Cheetah Awards, recognizing client innovation and excellence in managing their legal operations. The awards were presented at the Legal Tracker Summit at the Thomson Reuters VANTAGE conference in Orlando, Florida, on June 6.
The 2017 Golden Cheetah Awards recognized seven companies for their outstanding achievements. This year’s recipients were selected for the challenges they tackled, the results they delivered, and the value they brought to their companies. In addition to the Golden Cheetah winner, Legal Tracker awarded second and third place winners and a Sprint Award (given to the most successful new client). Three companies also received honorable mentions for their robust uses of Tracker.
Oracle Corporation received the Sprint Award for its impressive quick adaptation of Tracker, resulting in the rollout of electronic billing across three continents and seeing immediate and drastic ROI in the first year of using Tracker. Oracle’s Legal Operations team, headed by Christine Coats, expanded its open matters by more than 1500%, reduced average invoice approval time from two months to one week, and increased the number of electronically processed invoices by 400%.
The Golden Cheetah went to Tesoro Corporation for its robust use of Tracker and implementation of new strategies. Tesoro’s Legal Operations team, led by Clifford Barr, Monica Moton, and Michelle Strauss reduced outside counsel spend and improved data accuracy and reporting by revising their billing guidelines and overhauling their process for engaging outside counsel. These practices resulted in the reduction of net legal spend by 11% and savings of more than $6 million in one year.
G4S Secure Solutions (USA) Inc. was awarded Second Place for an impressive global rollout of Tracker and data migration initiative, leading to more than $200,000 in savings in one year. Copart, Inc. received Third Place honors for matter management innovation by using Tracker as a real estate portfolio management tool, eliminating 10 hours per week of administrative activity in its legal department. Unilever PLC, Unum Group, and Priceline Group, Inc. received honorable mentions. All three companies showed outstanding performance and were recognized for legal department excellence.
